‘Gbajabiamila should be suspended’ — Atiku tells Tinubu over alleged bribery scandal
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has demanded the suspension of President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Atiku, in a statement through his media team, advised Tinubu to lead by example by holding his own appointees accountable for their actions.
Atiku’s statement follows the ₦400 million bribery allegations against Gbajabiamila by the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi.
Reacting, Atiku explained that Gbajabiamila’s claim that the agency did not exist has created more credibility gaps for him and puts question marks on the credibility of the entire 2026 national budget.
The former Vice President said the alleged colossal budgetary fraud cannot be swept under the carpet by weak and unconvincing explanations from the Chief of Staff.
Atiku further recommended that Gbajabiamila should be suspended, and an independent investigation be carried out to establish the whole truth about the national scandal.
Tinubu, governors want state police for 2027 elections — Galadima
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has accused President Bola Tinubu and state governors of pushing for the creation of state police to use it for political purposes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima made the allegation on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
He questioned the argument that state police would address the country’s security challenges.
“Nobody ever conceived the idea of state police to sort out our security challenge. If the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian military can’t solve the security situation in the country, I wonder how the state police would be able to do that,” he said.
Galadima alleged that the proposed state police could be deployed to intimidate political opponents during elections.
The NDC chieftain recalled the activities of the defunct Native Authority Police, warning against a repeat of history.
We are on top of the situation — Lagos govt breaks silence on heavy flooding
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the immediate dredging and maintenance of 28 additional primary drainage channels across the state following recent flooding that affected several communities.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kunle Adeshina.
Wahab said the government was responding to the flash floods caused by recent heavy rainfall, which he described as an extreme weather event that produced an unusually high volume of water within a short period.
According to the statement, the downpour overwhelmed drainage channels in some parts of the state, causing temporary flooding in Victoria Island, Lekki, Ikeja, Gbagada, Mushin, Mafoluku and other communities.
Wahab said the flooding was not peculiar to Lagos, noting that similar heavy rainfall was recorded in other African countries and parts of North America on the same day.
He explained that Lagos faces a complex hydrological challenge because of its extensive network of lagoons, rivers, creeks and tidal water bodies.
According to him, the interaction between the Atlantic Ocean, Lagos Lagoon and other water bodies, especially during high tide, slows the discharge of stormwater into the sea and may lead to temporary flooding in low-lying areas after exceptionally heavy rainfall.

Federal High Court issues fresh directive on pre-election matters
The Federal High Court (FHC) has issued the Pre-Election Practice Directions, 2026, which will serve as guidelines regarding pre-election matters ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The Pre-Election Practice Directions, 2026, were issued by the Chief Judge (CJ), Justice John Tsoho, on Tuesday.
According to a statement made available to newsmen by the FHC Director of Information, Dr Catherine-Oby Christopher, the current practice directions have repealed the 2022 version.
The statement added that the CJ acted in exercise of the powers conferred on him by virtue of Sections 254 and 285 (9), (10) and (14) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended); Sections 29 (5) and 88 (2) of the Electoral Act, 2026; and all other powers enabling him in that regard.
The court said the practice directions are also aimed at ensuring that in all election matters, the parties focus on matters which are genuinely in issue.
The CJ said it would minimise the time spent in dealing with interlocutory matters, ensure that the possibility of amicable settlement is explored before the parties go into a hearing, and minimise undue adjournments and delays in the conduct of matters.
He also said that it was in line with the constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and other applicable laws.

Haaland sends Norway into 2026 World Cup last 16 as Ivory Coast exit
Norway booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 16 with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ivory Coast, as Erling Braut Haaland scored a late winner to end the Africans’ historic run.
It was Norway’s first knockout win at the World Cup after three attempts, while Ivory Coast’s first appearance beyond the group stage came to a painful end despite an impressive display.
Norway made the brighter start, with Haaland threatening early, but Ivory Coast soon settled and carved out chances of their own. Nicolas Pépé went close after meeting Yan Diomandé’s cross, while Ghislain Konan fired into the side netting. Just before half-time, Antonio Nusa broke the deadlock with a superb curling effort that beat Yahia Fofana after cutting in from the left.
Ivory Coast responded strongly after the restart, forcing Ørjan Nyland into action as Pépé tested the goalkeeper from close range. Norway also threatened, but Amad Diallo produced a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Torbjørn Heggem before making an even bigger impact at the other end.
The Manchester United winger spectacularly levelled the match, weaving through the Norwegian defence before finishing emphatically to revive Ivory Coast’s hopes. However, Haaland had the final say, arriving inside the box to convert Patrick Berg’s square pass and restore Norway’s lead with the decisive goal.
Nyland preserved the advantage in the closing stages by tipping Amad’s dangerous free-kick over the crossbar, sealing Norway’s place in the next round. They will now face Brazil for a place in the quarter-finals, while Ivory Coast bow out with pride after their best-ever World Cup campaign.
