Atiku Abubakar has accused President Tinubu of trying to strangle political competition by allegedly moving to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku Abubakar has taken aim at President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of revealing his “true colours” through an alleged bid to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement released by his media office and reported by Punch, the former Vice President said the alleged judicial push against the opposition party is part of a wider scheme to weaken political rivals before the 2027 general election. Atiku warned the move risks steering Nigeria toward a one-party state, eroding the freedoms that underpin democracy.
He called on the judiciary to stay independent and resist political pressure, insisting that healthy democracies depend on strong opposition and genuine voter choice.
