Africa shines as seven teams reach World Cup knockouts

Seven African nations have reached the World Cup Round of 32, with Algeria and DR Congo still fighting for the continent’s eighth spot.

Morocco, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Cabo Verde, Senegal and Ghana have all booked knockout-stage places out of Africa’s 10 representatives, Punch reports.

South Africa made history, reaching the last 32 for the first time after beating Korea Republic, while Cabo Verde remain unbeaten and now face Argentina. Morocco take on the Netherlands, while Egypt face Australia. Algeria and DR Congo still have a shot on Sunday, depending on results elsewhere in their groups.
