Rescue operations at the site of Thursday’s Lagos building collapse have concluded with nine confirmed dead and 27 people pulled alive from the rubble.

The rubble has finally given up its last secrets — nine people are confirmed dead after Thursday’s building collapse in Lagos, with 27 others pulled out alive, The Sun Nigeria reports.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the final figures in a Friday update: “Final Update: 27 Rescued and nine recovered dead.”

The building, located along Old Ojo Road at Alakija Bus-Stop in Satellite Town, came down shortly before noon on Thursday, sparking a major multi-agency emergency response.

Earlier, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency had said eight people, including an infant girl, had died, with 26 rescued as search efforts continued

The collapsed structure reportedly housed shops and businesses, reigniting concerns over building safety enforcement across Lagos.
