The Wike-backed leadership of the PDP says INEC’s publication of Senator Sandy Onor and running mate Babangida Umar as its presidential candidates has “effectively laid to rest” months of speculation over the party’s future, National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed said in a statement Sunday, PUNCH reports.
The party said the development vindicated it after “sustained misinformation and propaganda” claimed it would fail to field a candidate, adding that “the facts have prevailed, the law has taken its course.”
PDP thanked its members, INEC, the judiciary and security agencies, while appealing to aggrieved members to return for the sake of unity. The statement dealt a blow to the rival Tanimu Turaki-led faction, which had adopted former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate and claimed last week it manually submitted his name after being denied INEC’s electronic portal access.
