Atiku hits back at Obasanjo: ‘I clothed, fed you’

Atiku Abubakar has hit back at Olusegun Obasanjo’s claim that picking him as running mate in 1999 was his greatest mistake, saying he cared for the former president after his release from prison.

In a statement issued through media aide Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he clothed, fed and cared for Obasanjo when he had little to his name following his release from prison. The former vice president said he stood by Obasanjo during his imprisonment, supported his family, and helped forge the alliances that secured Obasanjo’s eventual election as president.

Atiku said he received Obasanjo’s latest remarks with sadness rather than anger, accusing him of rewriting history.

According to Vanguard, Atiku’s response came after Obasanjo made the remarks at a public event in Lagos, describing his choice of running mate in 1999 as the biggest mistake of his political career.
