A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the DSS to investigate popular activist VeryDarkMan after prosecution counsel alleged he posted restricted court evidence from the ongoing coup plot trial against six defendants on social media — while sitting in the courtroom audience.
The coup plot trial just got a dramatic subplot — and VeryDarkMan is at the centre of it.
According to PM News, mid-way through Tuesday’s proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, dropped a bombshell: videos tendered as evidence in the trial of six men accused of plotting against President Tinubu had allegedly been posted online by controversial activist VeryDarkMan. The kicker? The man himself was sitting in the courtroom audience.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik didn’t hesitate. She ordered the DSS to investigate whether the leaked materials violated the court’s existing witness protection order — and to bring any perpetrator to book, even as the trial continues.
All six defence lawyers flatly denied involvement, with some demanding Oyedepo file a formal application backed by an affidavit before they respond.
The court also heard bail applications from all six defendants. Prosecution urged dismissal; defence pushed for liberal terms. No ruling yet.
The matter was adjourned to June 25 and June 30 for the first three defendants’ trial-within-trial defence, with the remaining three scheduled for July 1 and 2.
