Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has declared former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq wanted over alleged abuse of office and diversion of public funds totalling approximately $1.3 million and N746.6 million.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted for alleged abuse of office and diversion of public funds.
The EFCC, in a statement on its website, appealed to members of the public with information on her whereabouts to contact the agency immediately.
Farouq, 52, served under former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2019 and 2023. The EFCC is investigating an alleged N37 billion fraud linked to the ministry she oversaw.
A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo issued an arrest warrant against Farouq on April 16, 2026, after she and co-defendant Bashir Nura Alkali, a former permanent secretary, failed to appear for their scheduled arraignment.
Both defendants, alongside one Sani Mohammed, face a 21-count charge bordering on breach of trust and abuse of office, with funds allegedly misappropriated from a social intervention programme converted for personal use.
