Bishop David Oyedepo has criticized the FRSC Act Amendment Bill’s proposed ₦50,000 fine for preaching in commercial buses, using a viral sermon to instead demand government action against insecurity and pronounce curses on “sponsors of killers.”
Bishop David Oyedepo isn’t mincing words — and he’s aiming them squarely at a new road safety bill.
In a sermon at his Canaanland church in Ota, Ogun State, which went viral Monday, the Living Faith Church Worldwide founder tore into the FRSC Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which proposes a ₦50,000 fine for preaching in commercial buses. The Senate has clarified that the provision has actually existed since the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007, and insists the amendment is about commuter safety rather than curbing religious activity.
According to Vanguard, Oyedepo wasn’t buying the framing, arguing government priorities were badly misplaced. “You mean they kill people every day and government is pretending not to know what to do?” he asked. “I have not heard any statement from government quarters against the killings… And now you mustn’t preach in the bus, is that an issue?”
The cleric didn’t hold back on those he blames for Nigeria’s insecurity, declaring: “Woe to all destructive agents in Nigeria. Whether in power or out of power, judgement has finally come.” He was equally direct about his refusal to pray for perpetrators of violence. “You can’t slaughter members of my family and want me to pray for you. I pray against you, against your household, against your generation, in the name of Jesus.”
Oyedepo went further, alleging that killings across the country are being sponsored, and pronounced a curse on those responsible. “Every sponsor of killers in Nigeria, you come under a curse today,” he said.
He explained his long silence as deliberate restraint, framing it as a precursor to divine reckoning. “When you see God keep quiet at the wickedness of the wicked, it’s because the bubble is about to burst,” he said, adding, “As the Lord lives… this bubble will burst. Go and hide anywhere. The bubble will burst.”
