Suspected terrorists killed at least six soldiers and 12 others while abducting 75 people in coordinated overnight attacks on Kasuwar Daji in Zamfara State and Lajinge village in Sokoto State.
A brutal night of violence has left communities in Zamfara and Sokoto states reeling, with dozens dead and dozens more dragged into the bush.
According to Vanguard, suspected terrorists stormed Kasuwar Daji in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State around 11:30 pm on Saturday, first overrunning a military outpost stationed in the area. Sources say six soldiers were killed in the assault, while more than 70 residents were abducted and taken into the bush. A man and his two sons died after being burnt alive inside a building where they’d sought refuge.
“Our calls to Zamfara State and the federal government is to come to the aide of Zamfara people generally on this insecurity bedivelling the state,” said resident Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, describing the terrorists’ sheer numbers and the sporadic gunfire that preceded the outpost’s collapse.
Former deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Namadi Kasuwar Daji, confirmed the attack through relatives, saying the gunmen looted shops for food, drinks and other property before abducting an unspecified number of residents. The state police command’s PRO, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he was unaware of the incident but promised to follow up — a response still pending at press time.
Meanwhile, in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, gunmen attacked Lajinge village around 11pm, operating unchecked until 3:30 am with no security intervention. At least 12 people died, 11 from gunshot wounds and one woman, identified as Agada, from shock.
Six others were burnt alive after attackers surrounded a room where they’d taken shelter. “They ordered those inside to come out but they refused. The attackers then poured petrol on the room and opened fire,” a resident said, describing how victims were shot as they tried to flee the flames, their bodies left inside the burning room.
