The DSS has released Kaduna herder Nura Idris and paid him ₦3 million in compensation after a review cleared him of terrorism links he’d been detained over since June 2024.
A Kaduna farmer just got his freedom back — and a hefty cheque to go with it. The Department of State Services has released Nura Idris, a herder from Soba Local Government Area, after clearing him of suspected Boko Haram ties that landed him in detention back in June 2024, the agency said in a statement.
A fresh review turned up nothing tying him to the terror group. DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi ordered his immediate release, approved ₦3 million in compensation, and added extra support to help him get back on his feet.
Idris, relieved and grateful, praised the agency’s humane treatment, calling it life-changing. The DSS says it’s part of a wider cleanup of old cases — over 30 reviewed so far, with more than ₦300 million paid out in compensation, according to NTA.
