US arrests tech executive accused of aiding Iran’s nuclear programme

A lavish California mansion, a global tech business and a federal arrest are now at the centre of a high-profile US investigation.

According to Gazette Nigeria, US authorities arrested 63-year-old Jamshid Ghomi, accusing him of secretly helping procure sophisticated American networking, security and encryption equipment for customers in Iran, including entities linked to the country’s nuclear and military establishments.

Investigators allege Ghomi used his Tehran-based company, Faraz Pardaz Rayaneh, and a network of intermediaries to move restricted US technology into Iran over several years, bypassing sanctions rules. Authorities say he faces a charge of conspiracy to violate US sanctions laws, a crime that could carry a lengthy prison sentence if proven in court.

The arrest has drawn attention not only because of the allegations, but also because of Ghomi’s reported $35 million Newport Coast mansion and the scale of the alleged operation.
