Anxiety has deepened in Kwara’s Yashikira community after terrorists reportedly threatened to forcibly marry abducted wives of the emir and other female captives if a N150 million ransom is not paid.
Fresh fears have gripped Yashikira community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following reports that terrorists holding several abductees, including wives of the Emir of Yashikira, have threatened to forcibly marry the women to their commanders if ongoing ransom negotiations fail. The threat reportedly followed frustration among the kidnappers over delays in securing payment for the victims, who were seized during a deadly midnight attack on the emir’s palace and the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters.
Security sources familiar with the rescue efforts disclosed that the abductors are demanding about N150 million for the release of the victims, an amount estimated at roughly N15 million per captive. According to the sources, information about the threat was communicated through contacts linked to efforts aimed at securing the release of the abductees. “The terrorists have threatened that if the ransom is not paid, they will marry off the Emir’s wives and other female victims to their commanders,” a security source told SaharaReporters. “The ransom being demanded is around N150 million. The information came through a source close to the palace who is part of the team working to secure the release of the abductees.”
The source added that local vigilantes and security personnel involved in intelligence gathering had been briefed on the development, heightening concerns among relatives of the victims and community leaders. “The information was passed to the vigilantes and security personnel through channels connected to the rescue efforts. Everyone is worried because the abductors appear to be increasing pressure on the families and the community,” the source said. The latest threat comes days after heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated attack on Yashikira community, destroying parts of the emir’s palace and abducting several residents.
