The Supreme Court has nullified the PDP’s 2025 Ibadan convention, dismissing the Turaki faction’s appeal for violating a court order and abusing legal processes.
The Supreme Court on Thursday invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, dealing a setback to the faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, SAN. In a split decision, three members of a five-member panel ruled that the appeal lacked merit and upheld earlier judgments against the convention.
Justice Stephen Adah, who delivered the lead judgment in appeal number SC/CV/164/2026, held that the appellants violated a subsisting Federal High Court order restraining the convention. The apex court also agreed that the faction abused court processes by securing a counter-order elsewhere and affirmed that political parties must obey constitutional provisions, electoral laws and valid court orders.
