Bauchi and Oyo governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde are reportedly planning to leave the PDP for APC and ADC respectively as defections deepen the party’s leadership crisis ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, are reportedly set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before April as the party’s internal crisis worsens. Sources within the opposition party said the planned defections are part of a wider wave of exits triggered by the protracted leadership dispute.
A source familiar with the development told DAILY POST that Mohammed is already aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while Makinde has concluded plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The source said, “all the PDP leaders are leaving. Bala Mohammed is already in APC, Makinde is on his way to ADC”.
The PDP has suffered several defections since the 2023 general elections, with at least nine governors and dozens of federal lawmakers leaving the party. The exits are reportedly being fast-tracked ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline for submission of party membership registers before the 2027 election primaries.
