Chimamanda Adichie accuses Euracare of negligence, cover-up in toddler son’s death

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has publicly accused Lagos’s Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital of medical negligence and attempting to block a coroner’s inquest into the January 2026 death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu.

Adichie fights back: “Euracare is trying to bury the truth about my son’s death”

Acclaimed Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has gone public with damning allegations against Lagos hospital Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, accusing it of negligence and actively obstructing a coroner’s inquest into the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu, who died on January 7, 2026.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Adichie alleged that the hospital’s medical director initially admitted that an anaesthesiologist administered “too much propofol” to her son, only for the facility to later change its position, withhold complete medical records, and dispute the cause of death on his death certificate.

Most strikingly, she alleged that Euracare has now filed a High Court application to halt the inquest entirely. The hospital had not issued an official response as of press time, Punch reports.
