A deadly bandit attack has rocked Kogi State, leaving a vice principal, a six-year-old child and another resident dead.
According to Punch, heavily armed bandits riding about 40 motorcycles stormed Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area on Wednesday, reportedly attempting to abduct students and residents.
Security forces, including police, military personnel and local vigilantes, quickly responded and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The gunfight forced the bandits to retreat into nearby bushes.
Police said there is currently no evidence of a successful mass abduction, although investigations are ongoing.
One attacker was reportedly killed during the exchange, while a member of the joint security team sustained gunshot injuries.
Authorities have launched intensified operations to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.
