Seplat Energy has unveiled a major leadership transition, appointing Tony Elumelu as incoming chairman and Effiong Okon as chief executive officer as the company prepares for its next phase of growth.
Seplat Energy is pressing the reset button on leadership and it’s doing so with two big names.
As Nairametrics reports, the Nigerian energy giant has announced a leadership transition that will see businessman and investor Tony Elumelu become chairman, while industry veteran Effiong Okon takes over as chief executive officer.
The changes come as outgoing CEO Roger Brown prepares to retire on July 31, 2026, after more than a decade with the company and six years at the helm. During his tenure, Seplat expanded significantly, completing major acquisitions and strengthening its position in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Okon, who officially assumes the CEO role on August 1, brings more than 35 years of industry experience and has held several senior positions within Seplat. Most recently, he led the ANOH Gas Processing Company to first gas production earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Elumelu is set to take over as chairman from January 1, 2027, succeeding Udoma Udo Udoma. His appointment follows Heirs Energies’ acquisition of a 20.07% stake in Seplat, making it the company’s largest shareholder.
With fresh leadership in place, Seplat is signaling that its next growth chapter is already underway.
