A Nigerian man has been sentenced in the United States after admitting he used fraudulent identification documents to secure a job as a cyber threat analyst.
According to KOTA TV, 32-year-old Atuchukwu Markrufus Onyeanusi was handed a sentence of time served — nearly six months in custody — followed by one year of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and a $100 assessment to a federal victims fund.
Prosecutors said the case began after a traffic stop in Oklahoma in November 2025. Officers allegedly found a Texas commercial driver’s license bearing Onyeanusi’s photo but another person’s name.
Investigators later discovered he had used the false identity, along with a fake Social Security card, to obtain employment in Rapid City and had falsely claimed US citizenship on immigration paperwork.
KOTA TV reported that Onyeanusi pleaded guilty in February following his indictment on document fraud and aggravated identity theft charges.
