An Amish woman has been charged with aggravated murder after confessing to throwing her 4-year-old son into an Ohio lake as a religious “offering.”
An Ohio Amish woman has been charged with aggravated murder after allegedly throwing her 4-year-old son into a lake as an “offering to God.” Ruth R. Miller, 40, was arrested following the death of her son, Vincen, whose body was recovered from Atwood Lake on August 23, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. Sheriff Orvis Campbell said Miller confessed, telling investigators she threw the boy into the water as a religious act.
Miller is also facing domestic violence and child endangerment charges after allegedly driving a golf cart carrying her three older children into the same lake. The children survived.
The tragedy occurred just hours after Miller’s husband, Marcus J. Miller, 45, drowned while attempting to swim to a sandbar in what authorities described as a faith-driven act. Court records show Miller was scheduled for arraignment Thursday, but the hearing was postponed “until further notice.” It remains unclear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
