#JusticeForHadiza: Coalition demands oversight in rape allegations against former minister

Hadiza Musa Baffa has accused former minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki of rape and years of intimidation, while Turaki insists the allegations are politically motivated.

Hadiza Musa Baffa has accused former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), of raping her in 2014 and threatening her life for years. In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Hadiza alleged that Turaki used his influence to silence her while subjecting her and her child to “relentless intimidation.” She claimed he is the father of her child and recounted how he raped her at a residence in Asokoro. “He has been using his power and his status to threaten my life and frustrate my life with my child,” she said.

Turaki, however, dismissed the allegations as “spurious, politically motivated, and orchestrated by adversaries.” His media aide, Lawal Umar, said investigations cleared him, adding that Hadiza later withdrew her petition.

A coalition of rights groups has demanded independent judicial oversight, legal aid, and protection for Hadiza, describing her ordeal as “a national emergency.” The case has reignited public debate, with the hashtag #JusticeForHadiza trending widely.
