FG trains technical educators to close skills gap

The Federal Government has launched a Train-the-Trainers programme with Singapore’s support to strengthen technical and vocational education and close Nigeria’s skills gap.

Nigeria is investing in its technical educators. According to Punch, the Federal Government has launched a Train-the-Trainers programme to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and improve youth employability. The initiative is run by the Federal Ministry of Education alongside the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), with support from Singapore’s Institute of Education and Educational Services.

Speaking at the opening, National Project Coordinator Adebayo Onigbanjo said the training would sharpen teaching methods, assessment systems and technical instruction nationwide.

The 10-day programme kicks off with 60 educators from federal and select state technical colleges, who will receive training in pedagogy and assessment, with some proceeding to further training in Singapore.

Punch reports the programme aims to build a pool of trained educators to spread improved teaching methods across Nigeria’s technical colleges as part of broader TVET reforms.
