A prosecution witness in Nasir El-Rufai’s wiretapping trial told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he never heard the former Kaduna governor personally admit to hacking NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone line.
A twist landed in Nasir El-Rufai’s wiretapping trial on Monday. Prosecution witness Deji Adeyanju — lawyer, activist, and El-Rufai’s co-guest on a February Arise TV broadcast — told the Federal High Court in Abuja he never actually heard the ex-governor claim he hacked NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone, Vanguard reports.
What Adeyanju says he did hear: El-Rufai saying, “We listened to the conversations of the NSA.”
El-Rufai faces a five-count charge over the alleged unlawful interception of Ribadu’s communications and failing to report it. Under cross-examination, Adeyanju held firm that El-Rufai never personally claimed to be the hacker — though he confirmed telling DSS investigators that El-Rufai spoke of info from someone who’d listened in.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the case to Tuesday.
