Fresh face at the top of Nigeria’s university watchdog. President Tinubu has named Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as the new Chairman of the NUC’s Governing Board, The PUNCH reports.
The announcement came Monday via presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, filling the seat vacated by Emeritus Professor Olufemi Aina, who stepped down after less than a year on the job.
Ogundipe, a botanist with serious administrative chops, is expected to tackle university funding, academic stability, and global competitiveness head-on. The Presidency frames the pick as part of a broader push to boost quality, access, and integrity in Nigeria’s higher education β all under the Renewed Hope Agenda banner.
The 66-year-old led UNILAG from 2017 to 2022 and currently serves as Pro-Chancellor at Redeemer’s University, Ede.
