A suspected soldier of the Nigerian Army has appealed to Nigerians to pray for troops stationed in Maiduguri, alleging that soldiers at a military base in the area are facing repeated attacks by armed groups. The appeal was contained in a viral video obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday.
In the video, the individual identified himself as a serving member of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri and described what he said was a deteriorating security situation at the base. According to him, the military formation had experienced frequent attacks that resulted in the killing of troops and the destruction of military vehicles.
“Nigerians, both Muslims and Christians, please and please, we the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State, are in trouble. Every day, bandits will attack our base, kill our troops and burn our vehicles,” he said in Hausa. He added, “This is now beyond our power, please Nigerians we need your prayers, we left our families, loved ones and parents and we are taking shelter inside the bush, not because we don’t love our people but to defend Nigeria and Nigerians. Please, we need prayers.”
