A woman allegedly held captive, drugged and repeatedly raped for 72 hours in an abandoned building on the outskirts of Rome escaped and led police to five suspects now facing aggravated gang rape charges.
Italian authorities have arrested five men in connection with the alleged kidnapping and gang rape of a woman who was reportedly held captive for about 72 hours in an abandoned building on the eastern outskirts of Rome. Investigators said the victim was lured from a restaurant, forced into a van and taken to the property, where she was repeatedly raped, drugged and threatened during her captivity.
According to authorities, the woman eventually managed to escape and was found half-naked on a pavement by a passerby, who alerted emergency responders. Police subsequently raided the abandoned building and arrested five suspects identified as Saidykhan Lamin, 29, and Karamba Kanteh, 38, both Gambians; Harouna Traore, 43, a Malian; and two Nigerians, Isibor Wisdom, 29, and Paul Nwabueze, 39. All five have been charged with aggravated gang rape due to the victim’s vulnerable condition and remain in police custody pending further investigations.
Authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects connected to the case, including the man who allegedly lured the victim from the restaurant and the driver who transported her to the abandoned building. During the operation, police also discovered 22 undocumented migrants living inside the property. Italian authorities confirmed that 11 of the migrants had been transferred to detention facilities as deportation proceedings commenced.
