According to Peoples Gazette, two friends have been sentenced to a combined 23 years behind bars in the UK for causing the death of Nigerian national Sylvester Abayomi in a horrific high-speed crash.
Prosecutors said the pair were filming themselves inhaling nitrous oxide and speeding at up to 223km/h when they ran a red light and slammed into Abayomi’s vehicle in Manchester.
The 50-year-old, who was heading to work, later died from severe injuries. An Apple Watch automatically called emergency services after the collision, capturing the suspects discussing how to cover up the crash. A judge described their actions as “terrifying” and the recorded conversation as “chilling.”
