Troops take 51-year-old into custody over ₦3.6m military recruitment fraud

The Nigerian Army has detained a 51-year-old suspect in Taraba State for allegedly running a fraudulent recruitment scheme that extorted over ₦3.6 million from victims seeking military enlistment.

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operating Base Wukari, have taken a 51-year-old suspected recruitment fraudster into custody in Taraba State. The suspect, identified as Felix Yadeh, was initially apprehended by a local vigilante group at Bantaje Village in Wukari Local Government Area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained the sum of ₦3,627,000 from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretence of securing recruitment slots into the Nigerian Army. During interrogation, Yadeh reportedly confessed that his younger brother directed him to collect the funds as enlistment fees.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro commended the joint efforts of the troops and vigilantes. Warning the public against falling victim to such extortion schemes, military authorities strongly reiterated that recruitment into the Nigerian Army is completely free, transparent, and merit-based.
