The National Security Adviser has dismissed Nasir el-Rufai’s claims about a toxic chemical procurement and called for a DSS probe into the former governor’s admission of illegal wiretapping.
The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has formally denied allegations by former Governor Nasir el-Rufai regarding the procurement of thallium sulphate, a lethal toxin. ONSA clarified that it has “neither procured nor initiated any process” for the substance and has referred the matter to the DSS for investigation. el-Rufai previously claimed the chemical was sourced from Poland.
In a dramatic escalation, el-Rufai revealed on Arise Television that his associates intercepted a phone call by NSA Nuhu Ribadu. He alleged the recording featured Ribadu ordering his arrest, asserting, “Someone tapped his phone.” While admitting the act’s illegality, el-Rufai justified the surveillance as a response to the government’s own monitoring practices, sparking calls from the Presidency for his prosecution.
