Peter Obi: Why he has failed

by The Duke of Shomolu

The Obidients and all others who follow Mr Peter Obi play politics of ‘wishful thinking’, and this is why they are getting nowhere but survive by blowing hot air and distracting us from building a credible opposition.

Now why has Obi failed again? Simple, it’s because he is just a non-starter.The vehicle he has chosen to ride on is a vehicle where he lacks the capacity, the charisma the charm and the doggedness to play.
He has chosen to lead a movement that is expected to build a groundswell from the general discontent of the people and into a tsunami of anger that will sweep these people away from government.
A Mandela-type revolution, an Obama-type sweep and even recently the school boy sweep in the Asian country which led to the end of a very strong regime.

A Corazon Aquino-type movement that rushed the Ferdinand Marcos dictatorship out of the Philippines — something many military coups could not do.A democratic Arab spring-type flame that would burn the fire of change and have millions come out to vote out and defend their votes.

Obi in carriage, looks, outlook and engagement lacks the basic ingredient to inspire such a movement.

He was very opportunistic at the last elections, jumping on a raging movement of youths who were very angry at the system and making himself the arrowhead of that movement.

He didn’t own it, didn’t internalise it, couldn’t control it but rode its wave into major sectoral electoral victories and a possible general election victory if we are to believe el-Rufai.

After that he lost the momentum, he moved away from the movement, not understanding its trajectory or its pain.
