Oyo kidnap crisis deepens as abductors demand ransom

Tension is rising in Oyo State as families of abducted pupils and teachers anxiously wait for news from kidnappers who reportedly now want ransom payments. The victims were seized during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, sparking outrage and fear across the state.

According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper, sources said indirect negotiations were already underway, although the exact amount demanded by the abductors was being kept under wraps. Governor Seyi Makinde has insisted the government will spare no effort to secure the victims’ release.

Meanwhile, pressure is piling on security agencies as residents demand tougher action against criminal gangs terrorising communities and forests in the South-West.
