Fubara dropping 2027 bid part of peace deal — Wike

The political drama in Rivers just took another twist. Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike says Governor Siminalayi Fubara stepping away from the 2027 governorship race was part of a peace agreement designed to calm tensions in the state.

Wike, while speaking to journalists in Abuja, insisted the move aligned with reconciliation efforts after months of political battles and power tussles in Rivers. According to a report by Punch Newspapers, the former governor said agreements reached during the peace talks had to be respected if stability was the goal.

The Rivers crisis has kept political observers glued for months, with rival camps trading blows over control and influence ahead of 2027.
