The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned that visa fraud and overstays could lead to stricter scrutiny for Nigerian applicants.
The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a fresh warning against visa fraud, stating that such actions would attract increased scrutiny for other applicants. In a post on X, the mission said it protects the U.S. visa system through a rigorous screening process and urged Nigerians to report fraudulent visa activities to the appropriate authorities.
“Those who seek to commit fraud bring increased scrutiny on all visa applicants. We protect the U.S. visa system with rigorous screening, and our officers take fraud very seriously.
“Nigerians continue to engage legally with the United States as temporary workers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors,” the post reads.
The warning follows a similar advisory issued on February 9, which highlighted continuous overstays by some Nigerian travellers as a key factor affecting future visa opportunities for others. The mission noted that strengthening compliance helps safeguard access for legitimate students, business travellers and families, amid longstanding concerns by consular authorities over visa fraud linked to a minority of applications.
