Several residents and apartment seekers in Lagos have accused a landlord, Mr Femi Olarenwaju, of allegedly collecting rent from multiple people for the same apartments.
Multiple residents and apartment seekers in Lagos State have accused a landlord identified as Mr Femi Olarenwaju of allegedly collecting rent from more than 15 people for the same apartments, leaving many stranded, indebted and traumatised. Some of the victims told SaharaReporters that despite reporting the matter to the police, mediation centres and relevant government agencies, they are yet to recover their money or obtain justice.
One of the victims, Faith Praise Akpan, recounted how she allegedly paid N750,000 to Olarenwaju in June 2025 for an apartment she never properly occupied. “I’m a victim of Mr Femi Olarenwaju. On June 25, 2025, I paid the sum of N750,000 to a man called Femi Olarenwaju,” Akpan said. “At first, it was like this agent thing that they do, this one will have an apartment, the other will just come like a sub-agent. So, I paid the total sum of N750,000 to Mr Femi Olarenwaju, and he asked me to move in on July 31, 2025.”
Akpan explained that when she arrived at the property to move in, she discovered several other people also claiming ownership or tenancy rights over the same apartment. The victims alleged that the incident has caused severe financial and emotional distress, with many reportedly borrowing money or exhausting their savings to secure the apartments.
