The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has intercepted a truck carrying 36 tonnes of suspected lithium ore. The vehicle was stopped along the Jebba Expressway in Ilorin. According to the NSCDC state commandant, Abbas Nda-Mohammed, the suspects apprehended failed to produce valid licenses or documents authorizing the transportation of the mineral.
Further investigations are underway to determine the origin and ownership of the suspected lithium. The command aims to identify all individuals involved in the transaction and the specific mining company. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Friday night. They were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation.
