The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan will be affirmed as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
According to Vanguard, the faction described plans by a rival PDP group to endorse Jonathan as misleading and unauthorised, insisting no convention or official process has been approved for such a move. The group urged party members to disregard the reports and called on Jonathan to publicly distance himself from the proposed endorsement. Meanwhile, the rival faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki insists its planned convention will go ahead, deepening the crisis within the opposition party as preparations for the 2027 polls gather pace.
