No one can prevent me from visiting any part of Nigeria — Gumi

Popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has defended his controversial visit to Ibadan, insisting that no one can stop him from travelling to any part of Nigeria.

According to The PUNCH, Gumi was responding to criticism that followed his visit to Oyo State last year, with some groups accusing him of promoting northern Islamic ideologies in the South-West.

In a Facebook post, the cleric said he attended the event as a representative of the Coalition of Northern Muslim Ulama and was not invited by any South-West Muslim group.

“I was in Ibadan as a representative of northern Islamic scholars. Can anybody stop me from going anywhere in Nigeria?” he asked.

Gumi also claimed that Islamophobia was increasingly influencing politics in the South-West, dismissing the controversy surrounding his visit as part of local political battles.
