IGP Disu orders nationwide seizure of vehicles without number plates over rising insecurity

The Nigeria Police Force has launched a nationwide crackdown on vehicles without registration number plates or with concealed, defaced or altered plate numbers.

According to SaharaReporters, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu ordered officers across the country to immediately impound offending vehicles as part of efforts to combat rising insecurity.

Disu said criminals, kidnappers and terrorists often exploit unregistered vehicles to evade detection, making proper vehicle identification a key security tool.

The police chief warned that there would be no exceptions in the enforcement exercise, stressing that every vehicle on Nigerian roads must be properly registered and display approved number plates.

He also directed Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders nationwide to intensify enforcement operations. The move comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the country.
