A Nigerian professor based in the United States and his wife have finally achieved their long-awaited American dream after a legal battle with the Trump administration.
According to The Peoples Gazette, Professor Sunday Goshit and his wife, Regina, officially became US citizens after taking their oaths of allegiance in Iowa on Wednesday.
The couple had sued the government after their citizenship ceremony was abruptly cancelled earlier this year without explanation. Their case attracted public support and sparked demonstrations in Iowa.
Following the lawsuit, US Citizenship and Immigration Services reversed its decision and rescheduled the ceremony.
For Goshit, who arrived in America from Nigeria 25 years ago, the moment marked the end of a long journey and the beginning of a new chapter as a fully naturalised American citizen.
