NANS has called for a nationwide student mobilization and solidarity rally in Oyo State on June 1 to demand the immediate rescue of 46 students and teachers abducted two weeks ago.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has mobilised its nationwide structures and stakeholders for a massive solidarity and advocacy rally in Oyo State. Scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026, the movement protests the continued captivity of 39 students and seven teachers abducted two weeks ago by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area.
The attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School resulted in the killing of a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, and the abduction of a two-year-old toddler, Christianah Akanbi.
NANS President Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez condemned the security delay, stating: “At this critical crossroads, silence is no longer golden; we must act decisively and forthwith.” The planned demonstration includes visits to the affected schools, meetings with state security chiefs, and a peaceful march through Ibadan to demand immediate rescue operations.
