Billionaire Tony Elumelu has sparked online debate after crediting luck, alongside hard work, for his rise to wealth and success.

Tony Elumelu just handed the internet something to argue about. In a chat with YouTuber Korty EO, the billionaire businessman said success isn’t always about being the smartest or hardest-working person in the room — sometimes, he admitted, it’s just luck.

“I am here because of luck,” Elumelu said, though he was quick to add that years of grit, focus and determination shaped his journey too, Daily Post reports.

The Heirs Holdings chairman, who also founded the Tony Elumelu Foundation, urged young entrepreneurs to keep pushing through setbacks. But his “luck” comment has split opinion online, with many asking why a man famous for relentless hustle would credit fortune so openly.
