Sudanese political groups have accused Egypt of carrying out deadly airstrikes on gold mining sites in River Nile State, killing and injuring dozens of artisanal miners.
Gold mines turned into killing fields — that’s the accusation now aimed at Egypt after deadly strikes hit artisanal mining sites in Sudan’s River Nile State, near the Egyptian border.
According to The Guardian Nigeria, eyewitnesses say aircraft pounded the Jabal al-Uqaydat mining area, killing and wounding dozens of miners. Survivors described a ground operation with military vehicles rolling in afterward, sending workers fleeing on foot across brutal desert terrain in search of safety and water.
Sudanese political groups didn’t hold back — one branded it “treacherous Egyptian aggression,” while another demanded UN Security Council intervention. Egypt and Sudan’s de facto authorities haven’t officially responded, leaving the world watching and waiting for answers.
