Lagos leads as Nigeria records 102,025 new HIV infections in 2025

Lagos recorded the highest number of new HIV infections in Nigeria in 2025, as the country logged 102,025 new cases nationwide.

Lagos State accounted for the highest number of new HIV infections in Nigeria in 2025, with 10,430 cases, as the country recorded a total of 102,025 new infections across all 36 states and the FCT, according to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s State of the Health of the Nation Report 2025, obtained by Punch.

Rivers State followed with 6,287 cases, while Kano recorded 6,106. Other top states included Akwa Ibom (5,413), Taraba (4,854) and Benue (4,804). At the lower end, Ekiti recorded the fewest infections at 462, followed by Bayelsa with 982.
