A Lagos couple has been arrested after their adopted 10-year-old relative allegedly died from prolonged abuse and neglect.
A Lagos community is in shock after 10-year-old Faith allegedly died following weeks of abuse and neglect in Igando. Residents claimed the girl, brought from Ebonyi State six months ago, was regularly beaten, denied schooling, and forced into strenuous labour despite being ill.
Neighbours became suspicious after strange late-night visitors entered the compound and the female suspect acted unusually the next morning. Later, women entering the apartment reportedly cried, “She’s dead! She’s dead!” Residents then discovered Faith’s lifeless body inside the room.
Witnesses said the child appeared malnourished and often cried from alleged mistreatment. Police arrested the couple, Paul Onyeama and Adline, after the matter was reported. Authorities said preliminary findings suggest the child was already dead before being taken to hospital. The case has been transferred to SCID Panti for investigation.
