King Charles to host Tinubu on Nigeria’s furst UK state visit in 37 years

President Bola Tinubu will be hosted by King Charles III in March for Nigeria’s first UK state visit in nearly four decades, highlighting strengthened diplomatic and economic ties.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle from March 18 to 19, marking Nigeria’s first UK state visit in 37 years. Buckingham Palace said the visit underscores the importance of diplomatic ties between both countries.

The visit comes amid improving UK–Nigeria relations, with bilateral trade exceeding £8bn in the year to October and a new trade and investment partnership signed in 2024. The last Nigerian state visit to the UK was in 1989, when Gen Ibrahim Babangida met Queen Elizabeth II.
