Kebbi resident abducted hours after criticising insecurity in Wasagu

A Kebbi resident who publicly urged the state government to tackle insecurity in Wasagu was reportedly abducted by suspected terrorists hours after making the appeal.

A resident of Wasagu town in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Lawal Jabir Sahabi, has reportedly been abducted by suspected terrorists hours after publicly calling on the state government to address worsening insecurity in the area. The incident was disclosed on Friday by security analyst Bakatsine, who said gunmen invaded Wasagu town on Thursday night and abducted Sahabi alongside several other residents. “Just yesterday afternoon, he made this post. Tragically, later last night, bandits reportedly raided his area in Wasagu town, Danko-Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, abducting him alongside some residents,” Bakatsine wrote on X.

The abduction came shortly after Sahabi expressed concerns on Facebook over persistent attacks in communities within the area. “Kebbi state government should continue to stop the terrorism in Wasagu villages; if it goes like that, it is difficult for these people to vote for APC,” he wrote. Reacting to the development, a Facebook user, Sufiyanu Sani Na Ghana, commented: “Lawal Jabir Sahabi post this and see your own destiny. May Allah make a way out with ease.” Bakatsine also prayed for the safe return of the victims and called on authorities to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across affected communities.

The latest abduction highlights ongoing security concerns in Kebbi State, which remains one of the areas affected by kidnapping, banditry and terrorist attacks. Recent months have witnessed a series of violent raids and mass abductions across parts of northern Nigeria, prompting calls for stronger government intervention. According to Amnesty International, at least 1,100 people were abducted between January and April 2026, with many victims reportedly subjected to torture, starvation and ransom demands while in captivity.
