Gunmen invaded Igbosi Community in Ondo State, injuring several residents and abducting a nine-year-old boy, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the attackers.
Armed gunmen have reportedly abducted a nine-year-old boy and injured several residents during a violent overnight attack on Igbosi Community in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. The attackers were said to have stormed the community in the early hours of Friday, firing sporadically and causing panic among villagers, many of whom fled into nearby bushes and surrounding areas for safety. Residents sustained varying degrees of injuries while attempting to escape, while buildings and other property were reportedly vandalised during the assault.
The abducted victim was identified as Master Olaosebikan Victor, the son of a popular pastor in the community. According to residents, the gunmen invaded the area at about 1:00 a.m., carrying out their operation before fleeing. The attack left the community in fear as families assessed the extent of the damage caused by the assailants. Efforts to locate the abducted child were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said security operatives had commenced an intensive manhunt for the kidnappers. “The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an intensive manhunt for suspected kidnappers who abducted a nine-year-old boy during a violent attack on residents of Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun Ido-Ani, in Ose Local Government Area of the state,” he said. Jimoh added: “The incident was reported in the early hours of Friday, 5th June 2026, at about 2:30 a.m. by Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac and Mr. Joel Owalekan, both residents of Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun. According to their reports, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the same day, a group of armed men invaded the community, firing gunshots sporadically and causing panic among residents.”
