Kano, not Lagos, laid foundation for Dangote, Rabiu’s success — Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has pushed back against Vice President Kashim Shettima’s claim that Lagos produced Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, insisting that Kano laid the foundation for both Dangote’s and Abdul Samad Rabiu’s business success.

According to Daily Post, Sanusi told members of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria that the two billionaire businessmen emerged from Kano’s long-established trading culture before expanding their operations to Lagos and beyond.

“They went to Lagos to expand their businesses, not to learn how to do business from the beginning,” the Emir said.

His remarks came days after Shettima, speaking at the Invest Lagos Summit, credited Lagos with producing Dangote and Rabiu. The exchange has reignited debate over the roles of Kano and Lagos in shaping Nigeria’s biggest business empires.
