Jonathan asks court to dismiss suit seeking to bar him from the 2027 presidential race

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked a Federal High Court to dismiss a suit challenging his eligibility for the 2027 presidential election.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit seeking to stop him from contesting the 2027 presidential election. Through his lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), Jonathan challenged the competence of the case filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, arguing the issue had already been settled by previous court rulings. Justice Peter Lifu adjourned proceedings until May 11 to hear both Jonathan’s objection and the substantive suit.

The plaintiff wants the court to prevent Jonathan from contesting and stop Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting his nomination. Speculation over Jonathan’s political future has intensified following reports linking him to a possible 2027 presidential bid. Addressing supporters earlier, Jonathan said, “Presidential race is not a computer game,” while urging young Nigerians to participate actively in elections and obtain voter cards.
