The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission has suspended all pilgrimages to Israel with immediate effect due to escalating security concerns in the Middle East.
The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), on Tuesday announced the immediate suspension of all pilgrimages to Israel over the prevailing security situation in the Middle East. The decision was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Stephen Adegbite, in a statement signed by Mr Celestine Toruka, Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations, in Abuja.
Adegbite said the measure became necessary as the commission places priority on the safety and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims. “The recent developments in the Middle East, including the imposition of a state of emergency in Israel, have led to the putting on hold of all pilgrimage exercises. This also includes the ones being conducted by the private pilgrimage operators until the situation normalises,” he said.
He added that the commission would continue to monitor events in the region closely. “The NCPC is monitoring the situation closely and appreciates the cooperation of stakeholders and the media,” he said, urging Nigerians to pray for peace in Jerusalem and across the Middle East.
